HOW VENUS VERSA™ WORKS
​
The state-of-the-art Intense Pulsed Light treatment delivered by Venus Versa™ is designed to deliver strong and precise infrared light throughout the sensitive tissues of the skin. Each treatment is custom-tailored to deliver the light at various depths in order to treat your specific concerns at their source. The light restores and rejuvenates dead and damaged skin cells at the molecular level, stimulating the production of new collagen and elastin, reducing wrinkles and pigmentation projects, and improving your skin’s overall tone and texture. Venus Versa™’s revolutionary, built-in cooling system ensures that it delivers safe, comfortable, highly effective rejuvenation over larger areas of the skin, while avoiding unnecessary damage to the surface of the skin.
A typical IPL session with Venus Versa™ usually takes about 15-20 minutes, and because the treatment is non-invasive and non-ablative, you can return to your normal activities immediately with no downtime! Some patients will experience temporary facial redness which may last up to an hour after the treatment. You will see some reduction in pigmentation problems immediately after your first treatment, and for individuals with brown spots and other minor pigmentation problems, one or two treatments may be all that is required. Most patients, however, require a series of 3-6 treatments, spaced about three weeks apart, for optimal results.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING A VENUS VERSA™ IPL TREATMENT

Before the procedure begins, you will be given protective eyewear to protect you from the bright flashes of light. A cool gel is often applied to the treatment area, both to lubricate the handpiece and to help cool the epidermis during the treatment. Your skin care specialist will apply brief pulses of bright light to the skin through the handpiece. Depending on the size of the area being treated, the procedure may take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour.
During the IPL photofacial procedure, you will feel a warm sensation caused by the handpiece. Some patients liken the sensation to a light “snap” from a rubber band. The number of pulses you receive will depend on the size of the area being treated, as IPL photofacial treatment causes very little pain.

WHAT AREAS OF THE BODY CAN THE VENUS VERSA™ IPL LASER REMOVE HAIR FROM?
The Venus Versa™ can gently remove unwanted and embarrassing hair on just about any part of the body. The only areas to avoid are around the eyes. Most patients desire laser hair removal on the following, but not limited to problem areas:
Back, Bikini, Underarms, Upper Lip, Neck, Legs, Sideburns, and Arms.
CAN THE VENUS VERSA™ IPL LASER REMOVE HAIR FROM TANNED OR ETHNIC SKIN?
An active tan from the sun or tanning beds is not appropriate for treating with IPL. Tanned skin has a lot of pigment or melanin, which may also absorb the IPL light energy. It is recommended that a person not have sun exposure or have used a tanning bed in the area to be treated for a period of 3-4 weeks prior to treatment with IPL. Self-tanners must be faded from the skin for at least 14 days prior to treatment. Discuss with your clinician the possibility of tanning during your series so that a safe regimen can be created. Ethnic skin is NOT a candidate for hair removal treatments or other IPL therapies generally speaking.
IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL WITH THE VENUS VERSA™ IPL PAINFUL?
Laser hair removal is not painful, however; there may be some discomfort that can be managed with topical anesthetic if necessary. Patients typically feel a gradual heating in the targeted area. When the hair is dense, there is sometimes a pricking sensation, but that goes away quickly.
HOW MANY VENUS VERSA™ IPL LASER TREATMENTS DOES IT TAKE TO PERMANENTLY REMOVE UNWANTED HAIR?
Most laser hair removal treatments are successful with about six to eight sessions. The exact number will depend on the thickness and persistance of the hair, which is unique to each person’s body. Once the hair is gone, it is gone, although you may require touch up treatments over time.

PREPARING FOR YOUR VENUS VERSA™ IPL LASER TREATMENT
Shave the day before or the day of treatment. Shaving does not affect the follicle therefore does not decrease the effectiveness of laser treatment.
Do not wax or pluck the hair for two weeks prior to treatment. Waxing and plucking remove the hair from the follicle and make laser treatments less effective.
Keep your skin protected from the sun for at least two weeks prior (and two weeks after) to treatment, including avoiding tanning beds. Sunburned skin is not safe to be treated and sun exposure after treatment can lead to increased skin damage.
DURING YOUR VENUS VERSA™ IPL LASER TREATMENT
Your treatment will begin with a brief consultation. You will likely be lying down during the treatment, which takes 10-60 minutes depending on the size of the area.

SKINTIGHTENING
HOW SKIN TIGHTENING WORKS
We use a safe and effective Multi-Polar Radio Frequency tool called the Venus Swan™. It features two applicators: the DiamondPolar™ applicator for smaller treatment areas and the OctiPolar™ applicator to treat larger areas.
The Swan produces uniform heat under the skin’s surface. Wrinkle reduction and skin tightening* occur because the radio frequency causes a thermal reaction in the tissue, which stimulates the body’s natural healing response. This restoring response causes new collagen to form, along with the increased production of fibroblasts and new elastin fibers. This results in smoother, firmer skin that looks noticeably more youthful.
HOW THE VENUS SWAN TIGHTENS SKIN – A Technical Response
In order to fully understand how the Venus Swan works, we have to first look at the aging process:
As we get older the number of capillary (minute blood vessel) loops within the skin decreases, this means that your skin cells are not receiving as much blood and nutrients as they would have done in your youth. This affects the skin as the fibroblasts (which are responsible for making collagen and elastin) cannot function as efficiently or as quickly as before. This leads to fine lines, wrinkles and loss of elasticity to develop on the surface of the skin.
The Venus Swan reverses the effects of aging through the combination of magnetic pulses (PMF) and radio frequency (RF). Each electrode simultaneously emits RF and PMF in varying phases.
This does two things, firstly the heat that builds up in the skin from the RF causes the skin to think it is damaged. This stimulates the skin to “heal” itself, which means it will naturally deliver more blood and nutrients to the treated area as well as creating more collagen fibers through the healing process. Secondly, the PMF directly stimulates the skin to increase the level of fibroblasts, which in turn leads to an increase in collagen and elastin fibers.
In body treatments, this process also stimulates the contraction of collagen fibers and improved circulation to help reduce the levels and appearance of cellulite and reduce the overall circumference of the area.
WHAT SKIN TIGHTENING TREATMENTS CAN DO
As we age, our bodies naturally produce less collagen, which makes it susceptible to the wrinkles and sagging skin that come with aging. We use a non-invasive anti-aging treatment that works to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and tighten sagging skin by using heat to boost collagen production. This helps to restore a smoother, more youthful appearance.

The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient, and depending on desired results. Most patients want 3-10 initial treatments.
During a complimentary consultation we can design a custom treatment plan based on your skin’s unique needs and the level of improvement you desire. We can also discuss combining your Venus Swan treatment with other popular aesthetic procedures to further enhance the outcome. For example, some patients chose to combine Venus Swan treatments under the skin with Kybella treatments to remove fat.

No, the procedure is gentle, noninvasive and safe. Most people find the procedure comfortable and even relaxing.
AFTER RECEIVING SKIN TIGHTENING TREATMENTS
There is no downtime following a skin tightening treatment. There may be a minor degree of redness and puffiness to the skin, that usually disappears within 1 hour. You may apply makeup immediately and return to your regular daily activities with no “downtime”.

WHAT ARE FACIAL TELANGIECTASIAS?
You’ve seen those small red veins on your face, hands, and legs. When they appear on you’re face they’re called “Facial Telangiectasias.” They are broken or dilated blood vessels or capillaries that are commonly found on the face, nose, chin, and cheek. Telangiectasias can also be found on the other parts of the body such as the legs, chest, back, arms, legs, and lower extremities. They are typically very small — smaller than a millimeter in diameter — and are red to bluish in color. They are superficially located underneath the skin and are considered vascular lesions that are usually benign.

Causes Of Facial Telangiectasia
There are several factors which contribute to the development of facial vessels. The most common factors for telangiectasis are the following: genetics, prolonged sun and wind exposure, medications that can dilate vessels, pregnancy, excessive alcohol use, trauma to the skin, surgical incisions, and acne.
TREATING TELANGIECTASIAS WITH THE VENUS VERSA™
The Venus Versa™ laser is specifically designed to treat various types facial vessels and vascular lesions called facial telangiectasia. The laser precisely targets these vessels with heat-energy. The targeted oxyhemoglobin (red blood cells) inside the visibly broken capillaries absorb the laser’s energy and are heated up, coagulated, or closed down. This process is called photothermolysis, and results in the disintegration of the vessels.
As a result of this light-based energy exchange between the laser and capillary, many patients will experience clearance of the telangiectasias on the face, nose, chin, and forehead within hours of the initial treatment. In addition, the thermal effect of the Venus Versa™ laser on the skin causes the body’s immune response to send scavenger cells, macrophages, to the treatment site. Therefore, over a period of 3 to 6 weeks, these macrophages work to absorb the treated capillaries, reducing the vascular lesions or facial telangiectasia. Depending on the severity of these broken vessels, a series of 3 to 4 Venus Versa™ Treatments are recommended.

The patented Chill-tip is only available on the Venus Versa™ laser system. This makes the treatment therapeutic and safe because more energy can be delivered to the targeted telangiectasis without injuring the surrounding, healthy, non-vascularized skin cells. This unique chill-tip also makes the Venus Versa™ laser treatment much less painful.
VENUS VERSA™ RESULTS
Smaller blood vessels will disappear within hours of recieving a treatment with the Venus Versa™. Results for larger vessels may take several days or weeks. Results vary from person to person.

YOUR VENUS VERSA™ TREATMENT FOR TELANIECTASIA
People say that treatments with the Venus Versa™ are relatively pain-free, simple, and quick. All treatments begin with a consultation to discuss your desired results, expectations, and aesthetic goals. We’ll go over the exact areas and lines you want treated and will explain what a procedure for that area will entail, including number of sessions needed and costs. During the initial consultation, Heather Schwartzmann PA-C will take a medical history to ensure there will be no adverse reactions to the Venus Versa™ IPL laser.
The laser is placed on top of the skin, and turned on. It will emit several short pulses of light. Most people akin the feeling to a tiny band snapping on the skin, and find it is noticeable, but virtually pain-free. You’re free to either sit or recline during treatment.
The entire appointment should take less than an hour, including time for a consultation.
Afterwards we will give you a handout of things to do or avoid after your treatments.
SIDE EFFECTS OF A VENUS VERSA™ LASER TREATMENT FOR FACIAL TELANGIECTASIA

Redness and swelling: It is very common and should be expected that redness and swelling will occur directly following a Venus Versa™ laser treatment for facial telangiectasia. The length or duration varies for each patient, but it can last from several hours to several days following the Venus Versa™ treatment. Common therapies to manage redness and swelling are the use of localized cold compresses, topical creams, and oral anti-histamines.

Scabbing and blistering: The Venus Versa™ laser is heating up targeted sites underneath the skin. Therefore, there is a chance some scabbing or blistering may occur, though usually very rare. The Venus Versa™ is designed to have variable settings along with the patented chill-tip technology that drastically reduces the chances of scabbing and/or blistering. In rare cases, if a scab or blister occurs, antibiotic ointment such as Bacitracin, Polysporin, or the use of non-medicated ointments such as Vaseline, Vanicream, or Auqaphor are used to keep the area moist.

Avoid the sun: Following any type of laser procedure, especially a Venus Versa™ laser treatment for facial telangiectasia, strict sun avoidance is mandated. It is very important to use sun blocks several weeks prior to and after ALL Venus Versa™ laser treatments. Not all sunblocks are created equal, so please ask your physician which sun block to use. Prolonged periods of sun exposure on areas where a laser’s energy has been transmitted onto the skin can create hypo- or hyper-pigmentation. This lightening or darkening of the skin can be greatly minimized if proper sun protection is used daily for several weeks following the Venus Versa™ treatment.

Sensitive skin: Patents with telangiectasia often have very sensitive skin even without extraneous factors such as heat from a Venus Versa™ laser treatment. In short, one can and should expect the skin to be very sensitive for several days to a week following laser treatments to the affected areas.
