aboutBOTOX

BOTOX® is an injectable medicine which has been approved for use in the reduction of facial wrinkles. Known for its unique ability to reduce the activity of muscles, BOTOX, when used precisely, can effectively diminish and improve troublesome furrows and lines on the face.

Are you starting to notice wrinkles across your forehead, lines between your eyes, or crow’s feet?

BOTOX INFORMATION

Botox® might be an answer for you. Botox® relieves the facial muscles in specific areas of your face, effectively rendering the muscles dormant, and resulting in a smoother, fresher appearance by no longer allowing underlying muscles to tense and crease your skin. Botox® is a very safe and efficient procedure with no down time and is virtually painless.

When choosing a Boca Raton cosmetic dermatology practice for Botox®, choose our team at Allure Aesthetics that has artistic skills and listens to your expectations and can tell you if we are able to achieve your desired results. Our friendly team only uses FDA approved ALLERGAN.

HOW BOTOX® WORKS

Botox® must be administered by a trained healthcare professional. When safely and properly injected into the muscles of the face, it works by hindering nerve impulses to these muscles and thereby limiting their activity. By relaxing the underlying muscles, the overlying skin is given a smoother appearance.

TREATMENT AREAS

Botox® is best used in the treatment of wrinkles and lines that are caused by underlying muscle activity in the forehead and brow area. Crow’s feet (wrinkles on the sides of the eyes) also respond well to treatment with Botox®. Other that can be treated with Botox® include chin dimples, certain jaw muscles, and neck bands.

In addition, Botox® may be used to prevent sweating in the underarms and palms.

With Botox®, it is especially important to have a skilled practitioner as Botox® is not intended for use in all areas of the face and is irreversible. There are many muscles in the face that hold important functions and should not be frozen, or can be over frozen. For this reason it is important to only receive Botox® treatment from an experienced, medical professional, who knows how to properly administer injections and avoid areas that should not be injected.

BOTOX® MISCONCEPTIONS

There are a few common misconceptions surrounding the subject of Botox®. The following may help to clear up or clarify some common misunderstandings:

Botox® may have gotten a poor reputation in recent years for producing a frozen or expressionless appearance. While it is certainly capable of producing this effect, the difference lies with the doctor administering the treatment. Heather Schwartzmann has an eye for precision and will not apply Botox® beyond the exact amount you need to achieve your desired look.

Another common misconception that has developed around Botox® is the idea that when a person stops Botox® treatment their wrinkles will came back stronger or worse then they were before. This is not true. Once the effects of Botox® wear off, the muscles in your face will become active again and function just as they did before with no worsening of pre-existing wrinkles.

Heather Schwartzmann’s expertise in applying Botox® Cosmetic makes her among the top injectables specialists in South Florida. She will work with you to establish a plan for your desired look, ensuring that each step taken has an exact purpose.

BOTOX® PREP

When you arrive for your consultation, Heather Schwartzmann will go over this, and any other information you need to be aware of, in detail. The following are a few basic points that apply to all patients:

Patients should avoid taking blood thinning medications, such as aspirin or Mortin, for a period of ten days prior to receiving Botox® treatment.

It is important for patients to understand that the effects of Botox® are temporary. Results generally last for a period of approximately four months.

BOTOX® PROCEDURE

All treatments begin with a consultation to discuss your desired results, expectations, and aesthetic goals.  During the initial consultation, Heather Schwartzmann in Boca will take a medical history and ask some basic questions to ensure that you are a proper candidate for Botox®.

Once this has been confirmed, she will ask you to accentuate lines in the areas to be treated, by intentionally frowning, furrowing and raising your brows.

Then, she will map out the locations needed for your injections, and discuss the desired look to be achieved.

Finally, she will deliver a series of minor injections through a very small, fine-gauge needle. Each injection is methodically placed, based on your specific needs.

You can either sit up straight or recline slightly during treatment.

The actual procedure time for the injections, once your consultation is complete, is typically very short, lasting 10 minutes or less.

Afterwards we will give you a handout of things to do or avoid after your treatments.

BOTOX AFTERCARE

Don’t exercise directly following treatment as this will raise blood pressure and interfere with the product settling properly. Other things that can cause bruising and swelling are using a hot tub, sauna or steam room or any heart rate raising activity.

  • Do not lie down for 8 hours following treatment.

  • Do not work out for 8 hours following treatment.

  • Avoid strenuous activities for 8 hours following treatment.

  • Avoid exposure to intense heat (sun lamp or sunbathing) or cold.

  • Avoid taking aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen), St. John’s wort or high doses of vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

  • Remember to ask about follow-up appointments.
