Chemical Peels

Boca Raton Chemical Peels

The most common reason our clients’ visit us is for facial wrinkles. Skin, similar to any other material, is subject to wear and tear, and absorption of pollutants. Luckily, skin is able to rebuild itself. Because of this, chemical peels are able to work wonders. Peels help to exfoliate the skin and generate brand new skin cells. These old cells are replaced by new ones that are less affected by age and oxidation, for a healthier and more vibrant look.

The chemical peel involves a substance being put on the surface of your skin to advance the disposal of dead skin cells, encourage new cells and boost the regeneration of collagen. This can also be referred to as a chemical exfoliation. The skin will begin to return to its former brilliance that had been lost due to pollutants, sun exposure, and age.

We feel the most cost-effective way to renew and rejuvenate your skin is through a chemical peel. Peeling techniques are not always the best treatment for all wrinkles. We would recommend that some facial wrinkles are treated with one of our dermal fillers or Botox®. However, chemical peels in these areas could compound the anti-wrinkle benefits of such procedures.

 HOW DO PEELS WORK

The chemical peel involves a substance being put on the surface of your skin to advance the disposal of dead skin cells, encourage new cells and boost the regeneration of collagen. This can also be referred to as a chemical exfoliation. The skin will begin to return to its former brilliance that had been lost due to pollutants, sun exposure, and age.

A chemical peel works when your doctor spreads a chemical evenly across the skin. The chemical reacts with the skin and creates micro damage that causes skin to blister and peel off, thus removing the top layers of skin to allow new tissue to grow more easily. The damage caused to the skin on the one hand removes older skin cells, and at the same time helps stimulate collagen production, in order to heal the skin faster.

VI PEEL TREATMENT AREAS

Chemical peels, in general, are designed to improve the overall condition of the skin, and can usually be used on many areas of the body. However, it’s important to keep in mind that sensitive areas like the eye lids should be avoided because the skin is too thin, and incorrect application, especially if the peel is not performed by a skin care specialist, can lead to serious skin damage. Some areas that are commonly treated with Vi Peel include:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Hands
  • Chest

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A VI PEEL AND A TRADITIONAL SKIN PEEL?

Unlike other chemical peels, our treatments are virtually painless, require no skin preconditioning and have minimal downtime. VI peels are suitable for exfoliating the face and body. They also have vitamins and minerals which nurture the skin at the same time as it is going through the exfoliation process. These peels are practical, affordable and give excellent results in as little as one (1) week.
Contrary to some harsher skin peels, VI Peels are suitable for a variety of skin types and concerns.

One of the differences between a Vi Peel and other chemical peels is that Vi Peel is contains an anesthetic. This was an attempt to lower patient discomfort during this professional skin care procedure. Patients using Vi Peel usually report feeling a stinging sensation at the beginning of peel, which tends to subside when the anesthetic sets in.

STRENGTHS OF PEELS

With a medium peel, you should expect a social downtime of at least three days, up to a week-and-a-half. You will typically notice peeling and some redness after the treatment. We recommend minimal sun exposure for three weeks following the peel. Our patients respond very well to this level of chemical peel treatment.

HOW MANY VI PEEL TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED

As with most chemical peels, to maintain the effects of treatment, follow-up procedures are recommended every three to four months. In the initial treatment process, patients can undergo Vi Peel treatments every two weeks. However, rigorous use of the Vi Peel is not recommended as a long-term treatment option.

As part of treatment, your doctor or skin care specialist may prescribe a line of professional skin care products that will help you to maintain healthy skin. It normally takes about four days for skin to properly heal from a Vi Peel treatment. During the healing process, skin will slough off and may look flushed or red. You should not put any skin care product on your face besides moisturizer until your skin has completely healed.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE GETTING A PEEL

Do not get a Vi Peel if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or anticipating prolonged periods of time in the sun.

DOES THE VI PEEL WORK ON DARKER SKIN TONES? WILL IT LIGHTEN MY SKIN COLOR?

YES, the VI Peel works for darker skin tones! Each person’s skin is unique, however, so you should consult with your practitioner to see if you are a candidate.

The peel is intended to help address discoloration, uneven skin tone, dark spots and pigmentation. The peel may make the skin tone appear lighter, but it is actually returning the skin to its natural tone by removing damage.

PIH – Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation can arise following any chemical peel. The potential for inflammation to instigate the melanogenesis process resulting in pigment deposition. With the darker skin tones it is suggested to apply the post peel protectant provided 10 minutes after using each dark green post peel towelette. (We will explain this further during your consultation.)

WHAT AGES ARE RECOMMENDED FOR THE VI PEEL

The youngest age suggested for the VI Peels is around 12 to 13 years old and can go all the way through mature age ranges. It is always best to check with your medical practitioner to see if you are a good candidate for the VI Peel.

CAN I HAVE A VI PEEL IF I AM PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING

No. Like many chemical peels, contraindications for the VI Peel include pregnancy or breastfeeding.

AFTER RECEIVING THE VI PEEL

After your Vi Peel you should refrain from activities that raise the body temperature significantly and can induce sweating for 72-96 hours (3-4 days). Inducing excessive perspiration or sweating may cause blistering or post inflammatory hyperpigmentation in the skin.

DOWNTIME

With a medium peel, you should expect a social downtime of at least three days, up to a week-and-a-half. You will typically notice peeling and some redness after the treatment. We recommend minimal sun exposure for three weeks following the peel. Our patients respond very well to this level of chemical peel treatment.
